Electrically driven structures in bent-core nematics

چکیده

This review, dedicated to the memory of B. K. Sadashiva, concerns electrically driven patterns and defects in bent core nematics (BCNs) made hard-core, soft-core or bent-rod type molecules. It covers (a) spatially periodic associated with electroconvection flexoelectric deformation, (b) dislocations these patterned states (c) various types induced essentially homogeneous, unpatterned BCNs. While general, wealth pattern morphologies is just as rich BCNs rod-like nematics, certain features have so far been observed only some BCN materials. Some attributes relating generation behaviour electric field may also be ascribed material properties specific shown that field–induced well their modification by light irradiation serve optical gratings thus establishes background for designing new photonic devices.
